A collaboration with fellow friend and designer Yosei Shibata.
This project started from a discussion between us about our view on design. Design should tell a story.
We had these pieces shipped to Japan and shipped back to us. Each piece was wrapped in different ways to anticipate different ways of cracking. Then we put the broken pieces back together using a traditional technique known as "kintsugi". The design of gold lines on the white vessels comes from the breakage of the vessels, which we put together and lined with gold mixed in urushi lacquer. The experience of each vessel, traveling back and forth and breaking in the process directly becomes the design of the vessel.
